Ratings increase linearly? Topic

Assuming no increase or decrease in playing time, if a freshman goes up one rating in a random category in three games, can you extrapolate that out as 10 in 30 games?  Assuming a light adjustment for WE and being nowhere near his cap, of course.

If it's above 20 now and he's not gonna come anywhere close to his cap you can usually extrapolate it and be reasonably close.  Probably within 1 or 2.

linear is a good estimate so long as none of the special factors that reduce effectiveness apply

value not under 20 or over 80

minutes of practice not over 20

not near cap

Yeah, I think the last thing that mets mentioned is a major factor. The closer you get to the cap, the slower the increase (unless the starting value is very low, which of course makes those first couple points the slowest).

Why does it change if the WE is above 80?

For example, let's take this guy: Shawn Lee

Through three games (two exhibition, one regular season), his LP is up 3.  His WE is 85.  I'm confident he's nowhere near his cap.  What is it about his WE being above 80 that will throw this off?

Not his WE; in this case his LP.  If it's under 20 or over 80 it increases more slowly.  There's basically a bell curve where the rate of increase is related to the height of the curve, but the broad middle (~20-80) seems to be very close to flat and only the tails really exhibit appreciably different improvement rates.
