unless he has high potential in athleticism and defense, he's not going to be anything to write home about.

and even then he's only got 2 years to take advantage of any high potentials he has.  you definitely could have done worse, but he will just be at best an average center when he graduates

im with bow2dacowz. unless its high high in ath and def, he won't be good. With 2 years left, even if he's high - high in those 2, he won't hit 50 in either categories.

yeah im about to find out soon hold on.
2/2/2011 4:42 PM
yeah I just started thinkin bout that, they both affect rebounding?

ATH affects everything.  i dont know if DEF directly affects rebounding, but there are so many centers who will have better athleticism than your guy...if they have any kind of decent LP ability they are going to either light you up and/or cause your guy to foul out very quickly

yeah that sucks haha. thinkin i should maybe redshirt. but i wanna see his potential first and ill probably end up not singing him.

ath matters in offense and def. Alot of ppl say it affects reb as well but I disagree, since I have had 30 ath/99 reb C avg 11-12 reb/game in 25 min in his final 2 seasons. But low ath/low def and you are looking at ur C being dominated on the defensive end, and not shooting efficiently.

alrite cool i was wondering bout how well he would rebound thank you. definetly worried bout him not being able to score or defend

I disagree with you guys, I think this center will be decently effective in d3.  He won't be a game changer, but he'd be a decent bench player for a C- school.

thanks kimble. just found out has high potential in athleticism and from what my assistant says, an all american lol. Hes ready to sign and im gonna redshirt him.

I agree - he'll be a decent C for you.

If he really has high potential in ATH, I'd put 20 minutes into conditioning and his ATH will increase fast.
He'll be a good rebounder for a C- school by the end of the year.

P.S.  Don't even worry about his DE rating.  I've had good success completely ignoring DE for big men in zone defenses.

oh really? yeah I just gotta gameplan around him if we play any dominant big guys.

I stand by what I said earlier.  If you want to be a better C- team, but still a C- team just the same...then recruit players like that one.  If you want to ever improve your prestige you need to recruit bigs with ath/reb/def, or at least the potential to develop those skills beyond what they currently are.

I realize that top players that other higher prestige schools can recruit won't talk to you yet...but that is where the potential kicks in.  You may have to recruit guys with similar ratings to the guy you mentioned (preferably with high work ethic and 4 years of eligibility)...and if they have high potentials in those categories, then that will be a good pickup to help you improve your team and get to a point where you can start to recruit better players.

Problem with him is he's only got 2 yrs left. That's not much time to develop his skills even with 80 WE.
