How the fck do I get a #3 seed from a #5 RPI?

http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Schedule.aspx?tid=2734

25-4
CT champs
19 game winning streak
4-3 vs top 25

I thought if anything the CT champs get a seeding boost.   Must have been 8 other teams in the same boat.

Ranked 11 pegs you for a 3-seed, but I'd think you would get a 2...  Oh well.  It's not all that different.

I'm too lazy to check all the 2 seeds. Yours seems to be a good resume for it:
wins v RPI:
1-50         8-4
51-100    3-0
101-150  4-0
151-200  3-0
201+        7-0

lots of crappy conference wins, but 11 wins vs top 100 RPI. I'm guessing the 4 #2 seeds are just slightly better, and you are probably the top 3, but like I said I'm too lazy to check the 2s let alone the other 3s to be sure of that.  2 vs 3 is just about irrelevant as they play each other in 3rd rd anyway...

You deserved a high #2 seed looking through it mully.

The worst ones are usually when you deserve a 3-4 and end up with a 7-8 for whatever reason.

I think I remember seeing either OR or Iguana or LM's formula for predicting NT seed as:  Seed = (RPI + Ranking +5)/8.  In this case, it's (5 + 11+5)/8, rounded up to 3 I guess.  Now, in the formula, the 5 may actually be a 4, I can't remember.  But this has proved to be considerably more reliable since I've come across it than my gut or instinct or the eyeball test, for right or wrong.

It's Iguana's formula and it's pretty accurate.  Very accurate actually.

how does it work for an unranked team?

Can't remember what number he uses in that scenario, but he's got one.  Maybe you could sitemail him and find out.  He's a good guy, I'm sure he wouldn't mind letting you know.  I'd be interested to know also because I've forgotten what it was.  He had it in a thread a long time ago, but that one has probably been removed by now.

IIRC, I think he used 30 for an unranked team, which seems pretty generous to me.

You may be right, but for some reason 48 keeps popping into my head.  I dunno, could be anything I guess.  Probably would just be easier to go straight to the source instead of us all guessing, huh?
