mully - were I CS and answering a ticket why, my answer to you would be he plays in the game at times when he is the best passer on the team by a long shot, with lo distro and playing PG, a perfect storm to generate assists. I am making this example up, but if a backup, lo distro, PG with 60 PA pass plays 20 minutes with all 30 pass teammates, he might get 75% of the assists on the floor, which could add up to 5 or 6 or 7 in this new engine, but if a starting PG with 99 PA is playing with 99 Pass teammate at SG and another 90 pass teammate at center, and has equal distro to everyone else, he may only get 33% of the assists on the floor, which may be 2 or 3.
This is sort of true in real life, at least from my perspective, both from watching and coaching, for a guy to be a high assist guy, he needs to play with a team that lets him dominate the ball, if a team has multiple PG capable or operating type guys, the assists get spread around - think Miami Heat in the pro's vs Boston Celtics
