Best role for this reliever? Topic

I could use a bit of help to determine what the best role for this reliever is....  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Emmett McDonald

Lefty Specialist? Closer B? or Setup?

Thanks for the advice in advance!

I'd set him up on a 10/15 pitch count, setup A, and let him pitch as often as his Oliver Miller workout regime will allow.

Lol...thanks Taz!  I think I will give that a whirl.

$2.8 mil for 25 innings in 60+ appearances? I'd give his roster spot to someone else.

If you are setting his pitch count at 10 or over he will be facing half his batters fatigued down to zero! To maintain his effectiveness you'd need to set it at 5 and hope he gets to face more than one batter per appearance. He'd always need days off between appearances and wouldn't be available for back to back games in the playoffs.

Not worth the trouble imho.

What he said.

Once you get much less than 15 stamina, they log so few innings that they're not worth a spot on the 25-man roster.  If you want to keep him, though, set his pull rating to 5 and put a 10-15 pitch count.  That should about wipe him out, and will need 2 games to get back to 100%, but it's the best you can do with him.

Interesting perspective.  I will give it a go and see how it goes.  I really can't get rid of him because I don't have anyone better to take his spot.  He has been on 3 championship teams, so he is effective enough in his role.  That was one of the reasons i picked him up.

Here's a guy I used to have:  http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=1807520

Pretty similar in skill and stamina/durability.  My guy had better durability, your guy is slightly better skill wise.  Aside from the 1 real stinker year in season 9, and the poor seasons prior to me acquiring him, he was pretty darn solid for 5 seasons for me, and again for the team that had him last year.  I believe I had him at 10/15 for most of his tenure with us.

Just check his performance, if he's getting killed by the 3rd batter in an inning, cut him back to 10/10.  Since you can only count on about 30 innings from him, you kind of have to ignore the short term stats on a guy like that.  1 or 2 terrible innings can really turn a stat line scary.  If you have a non important series prior to a big series, you may consider putting him on rest to make sure you can get him into a couple of the games in the big series if he's needed.

as others have said, he won't pitch often, but if you use him as a Setup A you can get him 30 innings of high leverage relief.  Hopefully you have a couple of quality relievers around him.  Ideally he'd be your 3rd or 4th best reliever, so he's not called upon every time he's rested.
