Baseline Prestige Topic

Been playing a while and still not sure I understand the concept.... a little help please?

The idea is that schools should tend to revert to their historical norm.. So no matter how bad Duke is in this game it cannot drop below a certain level and will recover prestige quicker when it begins to improve.

On the flip side, no matter how strong Morris Brown gets, it will never be a top tier program and once it  starts to slip it will fall quicker...

These are extreme examples, but all the D-1 schools fall have specific baselines. D-2 and D3 schools are all created equal in that respect

Is the baseline their original prestige? Is there a list of what the baseline prestiges are of D1 schools?
2/10/2011 5:10 PM
There is a list.    The Power 6 schools are all B to A level, the MVC/CUSA/WCC/MAC/etc are C and the small conferences are all D's.

Does anybody else think Michigan and Xavier having lower baseline than Arkansas, Tennessee, and Oklahoma seems a bit off?
2/10/2011 6:30 PM
It is what it is, but I guess I don't really care for this concept...it kind of takes the "what if" part away from the game.  I mean if you want(ed) to start each world with these prestiges, fine, but don't mandate it beyond that, just let the game kind of naturally run its course...again...another reason to love d2

Arkansas is a very solid team historically. Certainly a better job than Xavier in real life, and probably Michigan.
2/10/2011 11:59 PM
Personally i would think Michigan is a historically strong team and right on par if not a little ahead of Arkansas. The biggest problem is low level Big 12 teams have the same baseline as most of the A-10 schools which i'm not sure if any high school player would rather play at Nebraska over a team like UMass or St Bonne.

Is there a link to any of the other midmajor schools? I just found out that my Ivy team for the past ten seasons has a D baseline as opposed to many other conferences with Cs.

My understanding is that any school not in the above list is a D.

Now come and join us in the A10 where you won't be swimming against the tide so much.

Illinois being an A+ and Indiana an A- is just dumb

I think the fact that these baselines were created in 2005, the year UNC beat Illinois for the title, explains why the Illinia have such high prestige.  I'm not sure if WIS used some composite score of the 3 or 4 years prior to 2005 to get all the prestiges or whatever, but Indiana was 15-14 in 2004 and 19-12 in 2005 during the late Mike Davis years.  Nearly all of the great Hoosier years were ages ago under Bob Knight, so in HD land it's perhaps all understandable given the way the prestiges were established using 2005 as a (the?) key base year.

Is there a baseline prestige chart somewhere for D2?  Or are they all the same baseline?
