How often do players IQs of a certain offense/defense get better? Where can you tell?

It depends on what offense you're practicing. I generally use 22/22 for offense and defense. Only practice one offense or one defense at a time, and recruit for that offense/defense. You can run a press and then either a zone or man, but I'd stay away from that for now.

The IQs tab on each team page show how proficient each player is at the different offenses and defenses. Recruits generally come in at C-/C- for "their" offense defense (what they ran in high school) and F's or D-'s in everything else.

As a wild *** estimate, I'd say a recruit will get to B- or C+ IQ's after one season if you are putting enough practice time into your offense/defense. If you find out what your recruit is running before he gets to your team, you can bump those estimates up to B or B+. Coach calls are the easiest way to find out what O/D they run.

IQ's are very important, particularly with the press and triangle (in my opinion). This is why a lot of SIM's with a lot of seniors and juniors are almost always better than their counterparts, and vice versa.

Hope that helps. Sitemail me if you have any other questions.

Good stuff from wsut, just to add to it -- IQ improvement is not linear, so players move from F to D quicker than they do from, say, C to B. The higher (better) the IQ, the longer it takes to get to the next step up. In general, even if you bring a kid in as an F, with 20 minutes of practice in defense, they will be an A by the time they graduate.

Bringing in a kid that knows your Off/Def helps. If you can start at a C/C- you'll be about half a season ahead of someone that comes in at an F (again, based on 20 minutes). In addition to the coach's call (which is the cheapest way to get an idea if the kid fits your system), also pay attention to what your scouting trips say -- this will give you an idea of whether a kid's knowledge of that set is good, average or bad (good could mean he comes in at a C..."he looked lost out there" might mean he'll only come in as a D).

Definitely pay attention to IQ if you're running a press defense. Low IQ = high # of fouls...not good. The effects of IQ on offense are a little harder to pin down, but lower IQ seems to lead to higher TO's (which would make sense...)

this might help you -

  • Iguana1's BBIQ Practice Minute Chart: These are the ranges
I've found based on the 4 seasons since the iq grading has
    changed.
The number on the left assumes a "fast" learner.  WE of 80 and
GPA over 3.2.  The number on the right is for a slower learner.
WE around 40, GPA under 2.5.
Of course there are extreme cases on both ends.  I had a player
with a WE of 11 that took about 20% longer than the second
    number.
