RPI looks at whether you won or lost, whether the game was played at home, at a neutral site or at an away venue, your opponents' win-loss record and your opponents' opponents win-loss records. Margin of victory is not a component. It also only looks at the data through the games currently played, so you can play a lot of strong teams early and have a low RPI when they first come out and then hit a weaker part of your schedule and see that RPI rating fall like a stone even though you continue winning games.
