DH at 1B End of the season stats! Topic

I apologize ahead of time if this question has already been asked, but i have experienced with OOP players quite a bit in progressives with awesome results, but i have never tried at DH at 1B for anymore then a few games.  With 100 games or so left in a season, how bad would a DH be at 1B?  I have an opportunity to deal for a very solid bat, but he is a primary DH.

Right now the team in question is 4 games over .500 and a game out of 1st about 55 games into the season.  We lead the league in ERA, Whip, etc...But we are middle of the pact in runs scored.  Would adding a .282, 31 homer .500+ slugging DH(Real life stats) at 1B be a terrible decision?  Right now this player is hitting the crap out of the ball at  .300+ clip and .570+ slugging percentage for his team as a DH in the American League.  Unfortunately, i play in the National League.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I assume your current 1b can't hit? The dh won't kill you in the field but make sure it's an upgrade overall. Maybe 20 errors and 6-7 - plays in 100 games would be my guess

My current 1st baseman is 1978 Keith Hernandez who is hitting .260 with a .360 slugging, so i definitely feel it is a huge upgrade offensively.

Am running a platoon at 1b w/ a fulltime DH hitting @LHP. In a progressive.
35games into the season. Only a small sample size so far but:

12g 12gs 81inn 2E 0TE 93PO 9ASS 4DP 0 good or bad plays.
Given my current squad and trading FOR him last year, when he still had of stats, I wanted to see how it would pan out.

The rest of the infield is 2b A-/B 3b C-/A+ SS A/C+.

I've had no problems using inf's or of's w/ no rating at 1b in the past. They are much better than a D/D 1b.
My only issue w/ the DH at 1b is the 0 range factor. I have seen posts in the past that state a DH at 1st will create more errors for the other inf's due to his lack of (WIS perceived) defensive ability.

1978 Keith Hernandez in not very good... I think he's about done... I think you should trade him to me... I'm a little short on 1B pa's

Well, this may help or hinder.
Since I can't really factor in which inf's had which errors w/ what 1b. Here are my 1b stats @rhp. He's a D/D-.
Yeah, I'm LOADED at 1b. My defensive back-up is a C/D- 1b who starts in the of @rhp and 2 non rated of's.
Anyway.....

23g 23st 188inn 2E 0TE 189PO 17ASS 13DP

And BTW my DH has a 11.33RF(12st) and my 1B has a 9.86RF(23st)

God bless the Offense!
........and depending on this year's results, he may be the everyday 1b next year. Well with a real b/u this time....hopefully.

A very small sample size so far, but Rico Carty through his 1st 29 at bats for us is hitting .345 with 3 home runs and 9 rbi's and 3 errors in the field, but so far his bat is paying off as we have taken a 4 game lead in the division

IMO using a player out of position is 'hit or miss' proposition, becuase I've had some successes (currently using Tim Raines at 3b, and after about 30 games he's made only one error) and some god awful results like a guy making 4-5 errors a game.

Final Stats
In 98 games, Rico Carty hit .298 .374 .508 with an .882 OPS.  He hit 23 home runs and drove in 69 rbi's.  He also made 21 errors which Basically came out to him making an error and hitting a home run every 5 games, which is pretty solid considering i wasn't expecting that much power.  If he had hit 15 home runs i would have been happy.   My team went 37-28 before adding his bat and 58-37 after.  I am benching him the final 2 games of the season so that he is well rested for the playoffs.

Thanks again to all who commented on this thread!

That's quite a turnaround.  I'd be curious to know how many minus plays he had.

I once used DH Jack Clark at 1B for a full season in a 1991 prog.  In 144 starts he made 30 errors and 11 minus plays.  I was pretty happy with that, considering his offensive contributions (34 HR, .272/.386/.516).
