Can anyone please share on what factors they use in determining tempo, as well as what attributes are most important to you?  I would be interested in hearing different coaches opinions.
thanks

I'm no star, so take my advice less than the studs-

If I have a clear cut talent advantage, they use a very short bench (or their key 1 or 2 players have awful stamina- see 50 or so), I go uptempo
If I am looking for a shock victory, or have a short bench myself, I go slow down.

Since I apparently suck at recruiting stamina I never go uptempo anymore. I think in the past if you had a team that was clearly superior in athleticism and speed you could go uptempo and have pretty good success. Nowadays even if you are superior in those areas but you have crappy stamina you will struggle and if you combine that with poor defense it will be even worse because your foul #s will be through the roof.

I've even experimented with going uptempo in games where I had the inferior team as far as talent goes but had a big edge in stamina and had very good results doing that. Haven't been able to do that in a while because like I said I apparently suck at signing guys that have good stamina.

I have actually been using a lot of slowdown lately due to either having short rosters or having a weak bench and great starting 5. It's obviously a necessity when have 8 scholarship players like I have on both my D1 teams but I've done it when I've had 10+ scholarship players also. When your starting 5 is really good and your bench is weak you want to go slowdown just to maximize the time your best players are on the court. When you have a team makeup like that your starters even when they are "getting tired" will still be better than your backups when they are fresh.

If the other team has 3+ walkons, uptempo. Always.

If my speed and athleticism are both higher than my opponent's, uptempo (my belief is these two cats are weighted heavily by the engine...if I have the edge in both, I want as many possessions as possible for that bias to come through).

If my opponent is weak on the bench (lots of freshmen, for instance), uptempo (I want to force those kids on the court and try to take advantage.)
