Question about pull guys down DII -->DIII Topic

At what point do you start to try to pull them down? Do you wait a day to see if there will be any DII teams going after them?

Thanks

sometimes i pull them down right away, sometimes i wait a cycle or two, sometimes i wait til signings, sometimes i wait til the last day.

early on, it will cost more and there's a greater chance your money will be wasted if a d2 team goes after him...but if you get your name on him early, other teams (especially d3) are less likely to go after him, so there's a better chance that you'll land the player.

it ends up being a decision based on how much i want the player, how much money i have to lose, how good i think he looks to everyone else, etc.

It all depends- how many of my targeted pull downs are being taken (if many are going, then I pull earlier)?  Can I afford to lose on the pull down (if not, I pull later)?  I like to go before signings, so you don't get people who are going after their backups in your way if they lose our earlier (especially a higher division team.)

This is excellent analysis/advice. It's pretty situational.

As a DIII coach I would never attempt to pulldown on the first cycle. I'm never quite sure who will even talk to me until I send out a ton of phone calls in the first cycle.

I would focus on just making contact for $10 and waiting a while to see if anybody in D2 touches them.  I also like to limit my pull down attempts to players withing 400 miles so that if I do make a run at them it doesn't break the bank.  In addition to that I try to make sure that they run at least one of my O or D before spending the big dollars.  Of course, I am 3-8 all time in the tourney so you may not want my advice.
