I don't see a problem with Illinois.  His SOS is #4 and he's only losing by an average of 5.5 ppg.   Four seasons ago, with the same scenario, Illinois was 19-12, RPI 25. Eight seasons ago, they were Elite Eight.

Granted, they won't finish like the RL teams you mention, but I'd be pretty satisifed with that history.

Part of the problem, of course, is if you start the freshmen too high, there's no room for improvement.  That was the problem before the last update, when sophomores were routinely maxing out.   But it's still better than the 'old days', when only teams with 5-6 seniors had a decent chance to win the NT

coach billy g probably has the best solution, even though it sucks for the 98% of us that can't recruit 5 (or any) 5 star recruits - raise the initial IQs  of these 5 star frosh to like B- or something so they can play at a level representative of their abilities. Like I said, for most of us it makes it even harder to compete with the elite schools, which makes it sucks imho, but it is the best solution if you wanted to solve this problem, such as it is...

he's better than his rpi...he scheduled a bunch of really tough teams there.

in terms of having a fab 5 make you a #1 ranked team, not sure if we're missing out on that much to be honest.

Exactly.  Aren't those the players who call a time out with 11 seconds to go, down 2, when you don't have any time outs remaining?

I don't think we need to change things to help out teams that recruit 5 5-star recruits.

100% agreed.

I think teams that recruit 4 or 5 super players tend to do darn well - depends on who else they have, what system they run, etc.

To the extent that they dont immediately make a final four run, I do not think that is a bad thing.
