Would appreciate experiences you've had with..as an ex..a d3 sf recruit with 70 ath, 80 def, 30 speed, 20 perimeter. Will he be a defensive stopper, could his ath help him score. Thanks for giving examples of similar players you've recruited and is ath,def favored in this current engine.

You are looking for speed, ath, defense (in that order) if you are looking for a stopper. That guy is a mess.

Not looking for a stopper, just that there are many more of these type than 3-4 years ago and if there is a reason..ath is the dominant attribute these days?

carl, they don't make players simply according to what attributes might be best. They make the players randomly, and some end up with a better mix of attributes, and others weaker.

I agree with doomey that I'd never sign a guy like that, he has two strong categories and is just awful everywhere else.

I'm not sure that ATH is the dominant characteristic - i'd say that I think it can be underappreciated.  Folks look at other ratings and sometimes forget that having the best athletes really helps....

Disagree with doomey, I think it's ath/D/sp when it comes it to the best defenders. But I don't think everything is seperated too much. If I were to assign a %to each it would be 45%ath/35%D/30%sp. I used to think it was 55%ath/35%D/10%sp, but I've come to realize speed is much more important than I originally thought but there's no way it's more important than the other 2.

I'd agree with you, kmason, if we were talking bigs, but for my money, you need to run the court for the 1-2-3. Can't use that athleticism if you can't keep up with the guy you are guarding. The guy above would be out of position chasing faster guards alot of the time.

In rethinking it, I'd actually swap ath and d (sp/ath/D). D is important, but if you understand that it doesn't mean defensive ability, but rather the desire to play defense it becomes much less important than the other two. I say this with the caveat that I'd never take a guy with low defense anyway, I'd just take a guy with 50 D and high spd and decent ath over any slow guy with high d.
