Redshirt Question Topic

I'm torn on this and seeking some forum wisdom.

I gave this player a redshirt and he doesn't like it  http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=0&pid=1819602
(before it is mentioned I have only $9 carried over; so no way to confirm the redshirt during recruiting).   His WE is only down 11 to 38.  I've got another freshman that will not be getting many minutes this season, but had a much higher HSGPA.  Both have significant room to improve.
Would you (a) leave the redshirt on;
                    (b) take off the redshirt and try to get him to accept it after sitting the first exhibition; or
                    (c) try to give it to the other guy?

B. If he's the guy you want to redshirt, I'd take it off now and put it back on him after the first exhibition game. If he's still unhappy, take it off, sit him and the other freshman for the 2nd game, then try to put it on once more. If he still balks, you can make a decision whether to keep it on him and take the WE hit or put it on the other freshman.

Your team has two upperclassmen listed as PGs - once he sits for a exh game or two, I think it's very possible Couto takes the RS.

just remember for each redshirt attempt the player's WE usually drops further.

A WE of 38 isn't all that much worse than 49.   Much better than the WE of 10 (or 1)  he may have after another attempt.

I've never had a guy move from rejection to acceptance.  I have seen before that it can get pretty ugly, but sometimes they change their mind.  I may regret it, but I will give B a try while holding out both players that I am willing to redshirt.   Thanks for the quick advice.

"Coach, just got your note about making this a redshirt season for me - at first I was kind of upset, but after I thought about it, I think it's the right move. Isaac"

That is so sweet!
