Distro question...who uses the full 100%? Topic

So who out there uses the full 100% of your distro?  Also, one thing about the engine I'm still trying to understand is what happens if I only use 90% distro?  If I give 9 out of 90 points or 10 out of 100 points to the same guy does the engine use that the exact same way?  In the case where I only use 90 points, does the engine then determine how to use the last 10?

I usually use close to 100%, if not the full amount, but I'm persnickety that way.

9 out of 90 is* the same to the engine as 10 out of 100. The only time the engine thinks for itself is when you leave everything at 0.

9/90 or 10/100 don't really matter.  What matters is 9/x or 10/x where 10 is the total distro of all the players on the floor at the time.  So the only way that would ever be 100 is if you gave all of your distro to 5 or fewer players, which is probably almost never a good idea.  The engine only looks at the total on the floor during any given play, so all that matters is the ratios.  Using all 100 gives you the ability to slightly more finely tune the exact ratios to be what you want, but if you feel like it fits better using less there's no difference in how it will be treated.

I tend to aim to allocate 75-85 of the distro as my base case - that way, if I want to increase some player(s) I can do it without re-jiggering all the distro - say a guy is normally 10 out of 80, I can pop him up to say 20 out of 90 merely by changing his number....I'm lazy

nope

i used to use all 100%, but after seeing a couple of posts of gillespie's, i've altered mine and now i use about 41-46 most games.  i've seen a big difference in my in-game performance after altering it.

Always use 100%. If you always use 100%, the ratios will always be clear to you. Just my opinion. And I always have some players set at 1. If using less than 100%, these guys may be getting the ball more than i want them too.

I like using fifty.  Using fifty, the ratios are still clear, but I still have room to play.

I'm not sure they're that clear at 100, either, because the actual distro % changes depending on who is on the court.

Speaking of Distribution. . .

is there any rule of thumb to what the largest proportion of it is that you should give to any one player?

I typically assign all 100 points, I like to get clear separation between my haves and have nots, plus I like being able to compare roughly how the distro figure matches up with offensive %

ETA: Plus, by using it all, if I want someone to get more, it forces me to consider who will be getting less.

I don't worry about the total

I like 100.  If I could have 1000 I would probably use that since I like fine tune things.

Those are the three main benefits.  All good reasons.

Completely agree. I set it this way for every defense. Most seasons my top scoring guy has a little different distro against different defenses.
