Naismith just rolled over and I noticed this message on the news forum.  Never seen it before, what does it mean?

(FYI player isn't on my team so I don't know background.)

"Charlie Humelson medical hardship wavier approved by the WCAA."

Extra year of eligibility was granted because of an injury.  Check out the player and I'm guessing he missed 80% + of the prior season.

If a player misses a certain percentage (forgot the exact number) of the season due to injuries then the coach can file for a medical redshirt.

I believe the application is made automatically and is not user controlled, though I am not 100%

The guy has a Durability of 4 so it's not too suprising. What is odd is that it doesn't show up on his player profile. The application is automatic. I had a guy get one several seasons ago. He was injured in game 4 and his health rating went down to a 1.

Here is what the FAQ says:

Players are eligible if they have participated in less than 20% of the scheduled season (5 games) and the illness or injury occurs in the first half of the season. The illness or injury must result in an incapacity to compete for the remainder of the season. Players who have already had a redshirt season or a prior waiver are not eligible.

Question: if you play in the NC game with a player that only played in 7 games due to injuries, that 20%... do you still get a medical redshirt??
