Number of D3 A+ prestige teams? Topic

Just saw metsmax thread.  I know it pertains to D1 teams but I took a quick peak to see how many A+ teams there were in D3.

Allen currently has 18.  That sounds really high but I don't have a basis to compare since I don't have teams in other worlds.  And looking at some of the resumes, I'm not exactly sure how they are at A+.

11 in the new season at Naismith (it was 13 until two changed coaches and dropped to A)

It's much easier to get to A+ in D3 and D2 than D1 so even with lower populations I'd expect to see more A+ programs in the lower divisions.

Why?

No baseline prestige and conference prestige not having much if any impact makes getting to A+ easier. There have been mid major D1 teams that have gone to back to back Final 4s and not gotten to A+. I used to coach Hampton and a season after making the NT and having a C prestige I went 30-4 went to the Final 4 ended the season ranked #3, 13 in RPI and had the #1 overall draft pick and the prestige only jumped to B. Had this happened in D2 or D3 the prestige would've jumped to A- or A.

It's definitely easier to move up in D2/D3 than non-Big Six schools.  Not so sure that's true about high-baseilne majors, though.

Yea the A/A+ baseline schools are really easy to get and maintain A+.

Without a doubt it's easier.  But 18 simultaneously seems a bit much.

Apologies to the coaches for pointing this out but I'm not really sure why these are A+ resumes.  It sort of seems like one good season is all takes.  And I mean good, not great.  It's like if you put up a very good result in (1) wins, (2) NT showing, or (3) RPI and a decent number in the other two .... bingo, A+ prestige.

I'm cool with Mary Washington. Stevens being A+ is highly questionable.1 Sweet 16 3 seasons ago should not be A+. This team of mine, had Sweet 16, 1st round, Sweet 16, and ended up at only A prestige. It wasn't until the NC runner up the following season until I hit A+:

Weird.  I thought this was the most bizarre: http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/History.aspx?tid=7486

A Sweet Sixteen (14 RPI), PI Final Four (56 RPI), second round (5 RPI) get you from a C+ to an A+?

That's ridiculous.

Connecticut back to back sweet 16, I think that's ok at A+ as well. Illinois should be at A prestige at best.

Agreed. Look at my team from the above post. Sweet 16, 1st round NT, Sweet 16, and only went from B+ to A. PI final 4 and NT 2nd round are > NT 1st round + Sweet 16? RPI and rank are comparable as well.

as the connecticut coach whose team was linked by kujayhawk above, i agree with him completely.  I think its ridiculous that i'm at A+ prestige (and posted that on my conference corner before recruiting began) -- in my opinion, in DIII, you shouldn't be able to get to A+ unless there's a final 4 in there somewhere.
