Will a player transfer if you redshirt him? Topic

I am trying to redshirt a senior, and now on the 5th try, he has had a work ethic drop to from 72 to 1.  Actually, his work ethic went from 72 to 7 on the first attempt and dropped to 1 on each attempt thereafter.

Even if his work ethic reduces to 1, I might consider it worthwhile to redshirt him, provided that (a) he doesn't transfer at the end of the season and (b) his work ethic returns to 72 next season. Does anyone know if I would be risking a transfer or a permanent work ethic death by redshirting him in spite of his obvious protests?

he will not transfer
the new we (assuming you leave RS on and do not remove) is permanent.
If he is maxxed out (as many seniors are) and you really want him for a big push next season, go for it. the WE drop will be irrelevant in that case.

As far as I know he won't transfer (not 100% sure) but his WE will stay at 1 (this I know for sure).

I don't like the SR RS idea. You have 6 JR, RS this guy means you will have 7 players to recruit for in 2 seasons.

This guy is also your best player. RS him will severely weaken your team. At B prestige, it's better to win as many games as possible and go deep into the tourney to get the prestige boost. Plus, you are wasting a RS by RSing a SR. Better to use it on a FR and have him be a super stud when hes a SR*.

Thanks for the responses.  Since his work ethic would get nuked, I probably will pull back the redshirt unless he changes his mind.   He isn't maxed.  He might have another 50 core points to grow, much of it in offensive skills.  My hope was that the redshirt would allow him to maximize his offense and get his IQs to A+/A+ for the entire senior season.

If I have no scholarships to fill, the prestige won't matter very much at all.

Prestige is continous. Yes, you don't have scholarships to fill this coming season if he's RSed, but a poor showing this year (potentially missing the NT) will hurt you when you try to recruit the following year with 7 scholarships. And you only get money for 6 scholarships to fill 7.

I am not sure that anyone knows that there is ZERO risk that he will leave - I am ready to accept that folks think he wont leave based on having done this, but unless they have done it a lot I would think that SOME kids would leave....ya never know.

What makes you think I will make the NT with Smith this season?  Keep in mind that I have no experienced shooting guards and my point guards are both true juniors.  Overall, my guard experience is pretty low.

Your team is good enough for the NT from my experience, but you could miss it if you didn't schedule well. If Smith sits, your chance really drops. I don't know why you think only a class full of SRs can compete.

I can only guess, but based on how competitive Naismith has been since I joined, I don't get the sense that this team will make the NT.  I hope I am wrong, of course.

By the way, correct me if I am wrong, but prestige is not continuous.  Continuity is when each succesive rating is only connected to the previous one. Rather, prestige is cumulative over 4 seasons with the most recent seasons being weighted the most heavily.  So, what happens in a prior season has weight, but so do the previous seasons.

Sure, it is the past 4 seasons, with most recent having most weight. But a poor losing season and missing the NT can drop you all the way from A+ to B, so in your case, B to C/C+. That's a pretty big hole to dig yourself out of. Case in point, look at how big of a prestige drop it is just by missing the NT, and how long it took a pretty good coach to recover:
