Is this prospect worth $3.25 Mil? Topic

Hi, my 4th round pick is demanding $3.25 Mil, I cant decide whether or not he's worth it. There's a chance he will reject it, says he was offered several DI scholarships and hasn't made up his mind. Here are his ratings:

What's your INTL scouting budget? The odds of you finding anyone comparable for $3.25m are pretty low, unless you're in a world where everyone ignores Internationals.

True, but that $3.25m can be in addition to other money that he can bid on an IFA.  It can put him over the top for a winning bid.

Here's what I did in a similar situation.  Don't make the offer now.  Hold onto the money and see if a better prospect comes along in IFA.  If by the end of the regular season you haven't seen anybody else worth signing, then offer this guy the money.

I did that with a second round pick who wanted over $5m on a second demand after refusing his first demand.  I wasn't really high on him., so I held back, knowing that I had a Type D in my pocket at worst.  No decent IFA's came along, so I gave him the $5m after the regular season concluded.

Good call, this is exactly what you should do in this case

But wont said prospect have lost some of his mojo by not playing all year?  Isnt it worth while waiting for next seasons type D in this situation?  Though I suppose that $5 mill you spent would have been completely wasted if you didnt spend it....

I wasted half a season of development.  Not that big a deal, becasue he developed just fine after that.  He finally made it to the majors this season, and currently is overperforming with an .883 OPS in his first 48 games.

Does a 4th round pick qualify for a type D pick? I didn't think so.

Besides, you have to offer the player's initial demands to get the Type D pick anyway.
