Fast pace/normal/slow down Topic

Any advice on when you should employ one strategy over another?  Does it just depend on the opponent?

I have a heavy Sr, Jr. team thats big on athleticism and defense, but none of them are particular offensive LP/PER gems, so should I try to slow down the game, or speed it up?

Thanks

If I feel I have an athleticism and speed advantage, I'll kick it up to uptempo to maximize possessions (where, in theory, my athleticism and speed will have more opportunities to reveal themselves). If I'm at a disadvantage in both categories, I'll slow it down. The other thing that I look at for my determination is depth. The deeper I feel that I am in comparison to my opponent, but faster I want the game played.

I agree with Rednu. However, let me add something to that. I would suggest that you maybe try tempos out for a while. Maybe go with uptempo if you feel like you have the advantage over the other team, if things don't pan out as you expect change to Normal. Unless I am playing a far superior team, or mine is very young, I generally stay away from slowdown, as I like to have the extra posesions. I also feel the same way about Uptempo, unless I am a far superior team or think I can cause extra turnovers or cause more fouls, I stay away from it.

I think that tempo must be experimented with. Don't be shy to change tempos, and see how your team reacts. Then once you find the best tempo only change it to try and exploite another teams weakness or coverup your own flaws.

the best way to cover your weaknesses is to exploit your opponent's flaws...

Very true, but sometimes it can be very hard to find the other teams flaws.
