There's a freshman that I want to RS because of his low WE and high potential, but being the idiot that I am, I promised him minutes to get him to sign. If I RS him, a, I pretty much guaranteed to see him transfer after this year? What kind of consequences am I looking at? Am I better off leaving it alone?

Its D3 btw, if it makes a difference. 

He won't transfer.  If he takes the RS without a big work ethic hit you'll be fine.  Promising minutes just makes it a bit less likely he'll take it without that hit.

That's not correct. If you RS a guy w. no promises, he'll never transfer, even if he takes a big we hit. If you RS a guy that you promised minutes to, he is likely to transfer. He is also likely to have his we go to 1 when you try to RS him.
