MMT, I think people gave up because of what I mentioned, not the other way around. If you add more coaches to DI, it doesnt affect the big 6, it only further dilutes the few remaining decent players among the mid-majors. Now it's kind of a never ending circle as well because with all the big conferences owning the NT (there were a total of 6 non-BCS teams in the 2nd round and 1 in the sweet 16 last season) those conferences have so much money they can win any battle against a non-BCS team.
I believe they adjusted the recruit generation so hopefully that helps a little. I'm not bent out of shape over it, I still enjoy coaching up here, but I do finally agree that the way it is now, DI will never fill back up.
I had to take a walk-on last season to beat out a D+ Nebraska squad for a guy that might make the All-MAC team someday. You've got so few good players, average mid-major players are being targeted by BCS teams and those BCS teams have so much money, even when they're 2 full prestige levels down, they can still overcome it. I had 1k left when I finally re-overtook the lead for him, I spent about 33K on him overall.
