I just got this message from a guy I had called at the beginning of recruiting (in Wooden):

I've been thinking about your program and I think I'd really fit in there. Give me a ring, I'd like to know what Clarkson has to offer.

So I figured that meant he had dropped.  Sent 2 HVs and a scholly offer.  He rejected the HVs.  A similar thing just happened to me in Tark recruiting.  What's going on here?  Why am I getting the dropdown messages from guys who haven't really dropped?

someone else is likely recruiting him as well...

Could be.  He's still not considering anybody, though, and the guy in Tark never considered anyone.  Just went JUCO.

I had that happen to me in D3 Bethany last cycle, too.  I spent most of my remaining budget thinking all I had to do was a couple of HVs and an offer after he gave me the kiss, but he rejected it all.

There went my last hope for a decent class.

The question for me then, is what to do in that case in the future.  We can't assume that a drop down message means we can skip straight to HV/CV?  Should we still throw a bunch of STs at him to soften him up before spending serious money on visits and an offer?

THis happened to me once before at D3. I asked CS and all they said was sometimes you need to do additional effort.

additional effort he won't accept. CS obviously doesn't major in reading comprehension.

Isn't that a pull down ethan?

This guy actually took the HVs on the second attempt.  Interesting.

you needed to do a scouting trip or two. .  then he would accept all HVs

what i do is offer 3/4 HVs.  he'll reject a couple, but a couple will stick.  after that he'll accept them all

Lol. They pretty much said I still needed to do evals, which made no sense considering he told me he was open to coming, and then I send a CV and he rejects them.

or send some calls/letters along with your HV to give the kid something to go by....or send some extra HV's like polo mentioned
4/14/2011 9:50 PM
Not exactly that scenario, but I've had a handful of "D3" guys randomly reject my HV before.  As in I sent them something like 10 calls/letters, HV, scholly, with no prior contact..and they rejected the HV.  Every time that's happened to me, they've accepted the one HV when I re-tried it.  Just another observation.

Uh, this has been going on for years. Every time a guy drops to me he always rejects the first thing and then accepts the second. I just send 2 campus visits in 1 cycle so one is denied/one is accepted if I REALLY want him, other wise I'll just wait 2 cycles.

That definitely doesn't happen EVERY time, not for me anyway.
