Intentional Walk setting Topic

I noticed in a PM game that one of my pitchers issued an intentional walk in the top of the 9th:

Good call!  My pitcher was a righty, so we got the matchup there, and what's more the lefty Gehrig has an AVG# .360 and the righty Meusel an AVG# of .301.

This team's Intentional Walk setting is 1 and has been all season (we're 47 games in), so I was curious how often we've issued IBB's.  As it turns out, the above was only our 2nd IBB of the season.  The first was two games ago:

Good call again!  Bottom of the 9th, tie game, 2 outs, men on 2nd and 3rd and 1st base open.  No righty-lefty consideration here, but the walked batter Lazzeri has an AVG# of .342, next up Dimaggio an AVG# of .309.

Anyway, kind of odd that we didn't issue an IBB all season and now have 2 in the past 3 games -- and both times it worked out.  Seeing these results I'm almost tempted to change the setting to 2 or 3.  What's the setting everyone else uses for intentional walks?

I'm a committed "1".

While I know there are some (very very rare) occasions where an IBB is a good strategic move, I don't trust Sparky's judgment in this area, and I'd much rather pass up the IBB the couple of times a season where it makes sense than have him walking guys dozens of times in low-percentage situations.

I used to be a "0" guy, but have switched to a "1" over the last few months.

First thing I do with a new team is set it to "1."  Always.

Ignore descriptive words such as Never Rarely and Often. I've found that a setting of 1 only means somewhat less likely than 2, more likely than zero. Sparky has a mind of his own and often your settings only nudge him in some direction.

One thing worth pointing out - while I assume all pitches are counted equally for season fatigue, I've noticed recently that IBB have stopped hurting pitchers' fatigue in LIVE games.  Even short relievers who typically drop a few percent with each batter will stay steady after issuing an IBB.  I find this entirely reasonable with respect to reality - intentional balls don't typically take much out of your arm as a pitcher - and while I still leave my settings at either 0 or 1 because I find the IBB to be a poor strategic decision most of the time when Sparky calls for it at any setting higher than that, if one of your major concerns was in-game fatigue you might consider raising it a bit.
thanks for sharing this observation. I have not played many live games so didn't have an opportunity to notice, but if it holds over to the general SIM, it's worth noting.

I looked over all my active teams with at least 100 games played, all of which have had "1" settings for IBB all season, and noted the # of IBBs issued:

1. 162 games, 6 IBB
2. 162, 2
3. 149, 2
4. 125, 0
5. 116, 1
6. 110, 3
7. 107, 0
8. 107, 2

I don't know, but to me that seems infrequent enough that I might bump it to "2."

Well you're a better man than me Contrarian, because I don't trust Sparky's judgment in a lot of areas.  But unfortunately I have to live with them.
