Target innings pitched in minors? Topic

I'm trying to figure out a plan to develop my minor league pitchers.  I don't have a ton of pitching talent in the farm system, but I'm hoping I can get at least a few usable arms out of them.

I'm assuming I can under and over use arms, which will work their development. Is the ideal number of innings for a pitcher based on their current durability/stamina ratings? Are big jumps from year-to-year dangerous, as many believe they are in the real world?

Any rough guide to help me develop good young arms?

Don't let them pitch at < 100% to avoid injury, but as long as they are at 100% they can pitch as much as they can/you like.

Okay, that'd be a maximum.    Should I just pick a few guys and try to max them out at 150-200 innings on each team?  Or should i try to develop a few more and get more at 100-150 innings?

If a player doesn't pitch as much as he can, will he not develop as fast?

Only concentrate on your guys who have major league potential.  The rest are just roster filler.  I wouldn't take any innings away from a real prospect just to give them to a career minor leaguer.

I'm reading that you think a pitcher can become a BL pitcher simply by using him a lot.  They can't.    And there should be no way you need 1450 innings to max out your BL prospect pitching at one level.

I read nothing of the sort.  Do you just begin every answer with the assumption that the asker is a moron?

Maybe you can't read.

"Should I just pick a few guys and try to max them out at 150-200 innings on each team?  Or should i try to develop a few more and get more at 100-150 innings?"

Why would anyone NOT develop all legit BL prospects?

And, for the record, I wasn't calling him a moron.   He's got 36 games played.  He may not know.

You, on the other hand, may very well be a moron.

MikeT23 has been more than helpful in many of my posts here in the last month, so I didn't take it like he was calling me stupid.

I have maybe 2-4 guys who I'd consider BL prospects according to their projections.  I'm still trying to figure out how accurate those projections are.   Is it possible a guy will over-achieve the projections?

So, I shouldn't be concerned about "shutting down" a BL prospect if he approaches X of innings in a season.  As long as he's only pitching at 100% each time, keep throwing him out there?   If a guy only pitched 110 innings in low A ball last year, should make sure he doesn't throw 200 innings this year in AA?

Correct-- as long as he's at 100%, more innings results only in more development, not more injury risk.

There is no particular IP threshhold he needs to meet.  Just keep him pitching at 100%, and he'll be fine.  Stamina and durability affect how many actual pitches he can throw, which will determine how many IP he ends up with, but don't stress over the exact IP anyone ends up with, as long as they're getting into games regularly, they'll develop to somewhere in the vicinity of your projections.
