SEC Tark - Openings? What openings... Topic

Hi folks.
We here at Tark SEC love our conference and our programs, and we are quite proud of our collective accomplishments (4 NT Championships in the last 13 seasons) and are always striving to improve. Our biggest problem is SIMMY. We've currently got 4 openings, with a 5th possible (probable?) after renewals.

We believe a simple equation: More humans = More success.

Here's the offer:  Sitemail me with your intent to officially register and take over one of the openings. After recruiting your second class at your new school, we will send you a $10 WiS Gift Certificate. Easy-peasy.

But wait, there's more!

** IF **
we fill all SEC openings during this off-season, we will sponsor an SEC New Coaches Challenge.  The coach who improves his (or her) school the most over a 4 season span will win a $50 WiS Gift Certificate.

We are serious about improving the conference, and sincerely hope we fill 'er up and ultimately have to pay out the whole she-bang, because that means we'll be better as a whole. Come join us and make it happen won't you?

Vanderbilt (C+) 14-14 (7-9, 102, 68): Simmy for just 2 seasons now. Returns 8 players, none of whom I would immediately cut (but a couple could quietly leave…) Seems to know mostly motion/press, has some knowledge of man. Has a decent non-conference schedule next season. 4 open scholarships this season and 3 more next mean a reasonably quick turn around.

South Carolina (C-) 3-24 (0-16, 251, 55): Simmy for its 5th season now. Same class structure as Vandy (4 Srs, 3 Jrs.) Runs triangle/press and isn’t fast enough for it. Needs TLC, but you get to be a Gamecock…

Mississippi (C) 5-22 (1-15, 262, 76): Simmy 6 seasons and counting. No graduating seniors and only 1 walk on is a tough sell. But hey, the kids you inherit won a conference game last season! Just think, 2-14 is a 100% improvement! Where can you get that kind of return on your investment?? Plus, with 7 sophomores just imagine the mediocre season you could have in 2 years? Motion/man.

Mississippi St. (C) 8-19 (3-13, 204, 74): Simmy 5 seasons now – won the National Championship 8 seasons ago under lostmyth2. Fell quickly after the departure of their legendary coach, aching to pupate… 5 departing Srs and 5 Jrs mean this team will turn over very rapidly. Triangle/man.

Auburn (B+) 10-6 (19-12, 62, 70): Just went SIMAI with end of renewals, though the coach was MIA all last season (which didn't stop the Tigers from beating me twice and knocking us from the NT, but that's another story...) Auburn didn't recruit last season, and as a result has 8 open scholarships. The 4 returning players were all starters however (they'll be 2 seniors and 2 juniors), and there is some talent there. Personally, I'm sick of finishing 4th in my half of the conference and having to face gillispie's super-powered UK team in the CT quarters every season, so if folks want to just let Auburn rot i'm ok with that too...seriously though, not a bad program, needs some immediate attention to keep from becoming one. Motion/man.

Whats the baseline of these teams? I'm wondering if  I can make the jump straight from D3.

They are all B baseline. Probably not doable from D III.

I eventually want to move up to D1 maybe after next season at Mankato. I just never coached at D1 and don't know where to go.
I really don't want to do a complete rebuild and I also want be a in good recruiting area I guess.
Any suggestions?

My advice is to find a mentor and join a conference they are in if possible. An active conference will be more fun and typically a better conference overall, increasing your ability to move up again if that is your ultimate goal. No specific teams in mind or anything, sorry I can't be more help.

I'd consider it with the payoff if I had a snowball's chance in hell of jumping to any D1 program in Tark.

Not going to be able to make the move this year, but SEC is my goal for 2-3 seasons from now.

Post this again in 3 seasons when I'm ready. Just finishing my first year of a rebuild at VCU. Hopefully I'll be gone by then.

i'm considering it.  gggross has been trying to recruit me for a couple seasons, but i really wanted to get into the big 10 - wisconsin specifically (i went there my freshman year irl).  looks like big 10 is still full though so i dunno.
