So I just bowed out in the sweet 16 in phlena DII... I'm looking to move to DI because my goal has always been to coach Mizzou, and the only way to get there is to move up. What are the odds I will be eligible for a mid-major job? I'm hoping for MO valley conference jobs. Thoughts?

I looked at your resume and I think you may be able to get a C- job at best or maybe even a C but nothing better... I moved up and I got a D prestige job ... only 1 NT appearance but we lost in the Sweet 16 like you did so I think the highest prestige you could go to is C-. Im not sure about the MO valley conference because I dont coach in that world so I have no idea if you could make it there or not.

You will be qualified for many of those Missouri valley jobs. With that said you might want to consider another conference with more humans, more fun. The Mountain West has 4 openings at this time and you should qualify for atleast three of those. Checkout the activity on the coaches corner and the MWC threads in the Phelan forum. thanks - i loojked at the Mountain West and how you guys are pushing for a full conference... I  might look there too... i want to get to MU, so Mo valley would teach my the midwest recruiting and with all the sims it'd be esaier to get NT appearances and move to Mizzou quickly

trobone, that's one theory, and there's merit to some of it - however - D I is a different beast, at least BCS D I is. Learning the ropes in a filling up/maybe gets full MWC with even more experienced coaches (to augment the really good cadre already there) is a really good idea. North Texas lets you recruit in the midwest too. Just my $.02

ETA: Making the NT by crushing a conference full of weak simmys isn't going to prepare you to compete in the Big 12...plus, in a fuller conference like the MWC you'll get more recruiting $$, which means better teams faster...

all good points - i'll be giving the MWC a long look for sure - i doubt i'll be eligible for a couple of the teams though texas southern and north texas are the only 2 i'll be able to apply for... maybe i'll give one a shot and hope a better coach doesn't swoop in

I think you will be qualified for the MVC/Mtn West.
