pitchers ground ball rating Topic

does the pitchers ground ball, fly ball rating only effect home runs?  or does a high number in this rating also cut down on extra base hits?

Two otherwise identical pitchers, same park, same defense, same opponents except one has a relatively high GB/FB ratio and the other a relatively low?

expect the high to get more outs by ground outs than fly balls (more DPS less sac flies), give up more home runs but less singles.

why would a high rating give up more home runs, if the high rating means fewer flyballs?

It doesn't just affect home runs. I put a lot of emphasis on fielding ratings for my middle infielders and as a result my groundball pitchers have put up much better numbers historically than I believe they would have on other teams.

it affects whether hitters hit more balls on the ground or in the air.  the more balls hit on the ground, the better chance of double plays and cutting down on extra base hits and hopefully shortening innings

yeah, i was distracted by a phone call half way through typing so I probably got something confused.

It all depends on context.

If you play in a large park and have outfielders w/ range, a low GB rating is not much of a problem.  If you have great defense on the infield, a high GB rating can only help.

Your defense (first) and your park (second) provide the background as to how important (or umimportant) the GB rating is.

I don't think anyone has actually answered his question.  And I'm not going to because he doesn't have any teams.
