Best setting for great 3 Point shooters Topic

In Division 2 Smith World, my Delta State team has a PG, Robson with 98 PE and a SG Guest with 99 PE. Should I set these at +2, +1 or 0? I have always wondered what the best 3 point setting is.

there are other factors.  are they athletic?  are they fast?  are they good ft shooters?  do they start or come off the bench?  how much distro are they getting?  how are they actually shooting in games?

generally speaking i'd probably start with guys like that at 0 or +1 and then adjust after 5 games or so if needed.  if the guy was a horrible ft shooter then i'd probably start him at +2

Can't see team on phone. Do they have lp skills, say 25-30? If so I set at 0 to give them option to score inside. Lp used to not matter but a guard with 80 per,30 lp can take advantage of extreme def, +2,-4. Matters a lot now. Never used +1,2. Prefer to give players as many scoring options with 0.

Micheal Robson looks like he can attack the basket pretty well so I would do either +1 or 0. Just see which one he is doing better with...
As for Billy Guest I would put him at +1 because he also looks like he can attack the basket.

Run some efficiency numbers (TS%, EFG%, etc.) and see where they're optimal number is at.  Remember that .333 from 3pt is equivalent to 50% from 2.

When I've tried to do that, using different formulas I've picked up during my years watching hoops,  I tend to get bogus numbers that reflect playing time more than actual efficiency.  Anyone have a formula they've found to be more informative?

Neither of those statistics has any volume dependence at all, so you're clearly calculating them incorrectly...

I'd set them both at 0.  Maybe try Guest at +1 if you want.  I rarely use +1.  I've only used it on backup guards who just come out on the court for like a max of 8 minutes a game but have very nice perimeter ratings, figuring while they're out there maybe they'll be able to possibly net a couple threes.

i agree with Sol mostly....I'd use Robson at 0 because he should be able to penetrate and draw lots of fouls and use his free throw shooting effectively as well.

i'd probably try guest at +1.

the engine determines whether an attempted shot is a 3 pointer or a 2 based in part on the ratio of the players PER:LP.  When the engine was new there was no allowance for very low lp in guards, so the resulting ratios of 70:1, or like your guy 99:1 meant those players were launching 3s every time. seble fixed that by installing a minimum lp value into the equation I imagine. that being said - I think 0 should be your first setting for any high per low lp player. Watch his shooting % (assuming he is getting enough shots for that to statistically be relevant) and if it is high for 3 pointers, increase to +1. +2 is basically saying chuck it up everytime Reggie, and in 99% of players will lead to negative effectiveness from an efficiency standpoint.

ETA:
Having just read all of the other comments, I agree that this per:lp ratio should only be 1 aspect of the decision making. Robson will definitely get to the free throw line. I would keep him at 0 because his high bh will mean a lot of penetration, and when the D is stiff he can pop it from deep.

Thanks for the advice. This has always been something that has been somewhat difficult for me to figure out.

I've had a lot of success using guards at +1. If someone is going to consistently hit 40% from 3(or higher), I want them taking threes

Robson has no REB and no LP, so I would start him at 0 and see what happens, maybe adjust to +1 if he's hitting, or getting fouled alot. Guest I would start at 0 and leave him there because he does have some REB and some LP. You want to take advantage of that if you can.

I would set both guys at +2, but that's just me.
