Does putting a Rookie on the playoff roster effect his contract status or arbitration in any way?  I'm thinking of going with one less RP's and bringing up another bat - might as well bring up a good one if the effect is negligible.  Thanks in advance for any info.

No.  I've often brought up guys who have seen their first ML action in the playoffs.  They don't earn any service time during the post-season, and as long as you demote them before rollover (if you choose to do so), there's no demotion penalty and they revert back to minor league salary next season.

If he's already on the 40, the option year is already burned.  But if he's never been on the 40 and you're just adding him for the first time, then Mike's point is valid.

Actually, if he's not on the 40 at roster expansion, this whole thread is a moot point.

When I know I'm looking at potential playoffs, I'll make sure that anybody I might want to put on my post-season roster is added to the 40 before rsoter expansion.

Thanks guys.  I made sure to put him on the 40 before expansion so I'm okay there.  Demoting him before rollover is a good point but if you're in the WS and he's on the roster, the game locks after the last out (if I'm correct) and that is not an option.  In that scenario, if I demote him in the offseason after rollover he won't get a demotion penalty but his salary will be ML minimum rather than AAA.  Then call him up after 20 MiL games and save an arb year.  Correct? 

BTW - the threads in the forum have been very helpful to me as I've learned this game.  The information that y'all pass on is very valuable & makes the game that much more understandable & enjoyable.  It is appreciated.
