Pulldown with low prestige Topic

I know its not recommended, but is it possible to pull down D2 recruits with a low prestige D3 school (C-)?

Yes you sure can and should pulldown the better players if affordable. At d3 it will just cost more money if your battling A prestige. They may not have to pulldown so figure your behind by cost of 10-11 evals to start. Hopefully your closer to the player then other team to even cost a bit. You will not pull down as highly touted players but you should send the $10 phonecalls and see who is a backup. Hope a few will contact you later and will not have to pulldown. To become elite, should at least call for these d2 players to get recruiting effort for anyone within 200 miles that you like., hopefully avoid battles. Gl.

It's definitely recommended to pulldown D2 recruits with C- prestige in D3. Whoever told you otherwise is wrong. With C-, the only recruits that show up in your D3 search are the bottom half of D3 recruits. You must pulldown to be successful.

If you're not sure how high you can go with your D3 pulldowns, go into your FSS search, set it for "DIII" and set Eligible Years to "4".  Then hit "search".

Look at the highest rated 4-year D3 player you list.  Common wisdom says you can possibly pull down D2 players up to that rating +10, and if they're within 70 miles add 25.

Be careful, though, I'm not sure that formula hasn't changed since the 2-3 update.  You should at least be able to recruit D2 players equal to your highest 4-year D3 recruit.  In theory, at least.  Once you get near that rating, it's possible they'll either not talk to you or you'll be faced with additional scouting trips to get them to consider you.  Make sure you can afford the extra trips before you push the limit.

I hate the +10 thing, I'm really not sure why people use it. You should be calling every potentially recruitable d2 player no matter what their overall rating is.

I know ethan has put a lot of research into this, and I'm not sure he isn't correct, but I (who only has 1 D III team, and only in my 2nd season there) call everyone I think could be an ok player regardless of OVR and see who gives me the backup message. I've not paid close enough attention to who does and who tells me to bugger off to see a correlation between OVR and response, so, like I said, ethan may be right after all, but I don't do his way either...

I've tried to call everyone, too, but the results over the past few cycles have informed me of how far up I can go and what I'll need to do when I get close to that limit.

Bear in mind that, with C- prestige on my D3 team, the limit isn't very high.  If I only see a max of a 458-rated 4-year player on my D3 list, I know that I can call 460-470 rated players but there's a good chance they're not going to answer.  And if they do give me the backup message, I've had several who required more than the standard 11 SVs to consider me.  It can get very expensive for a D3 team's puny budget.

The +10 thing is wrong. I have had players that are +15 refused to respond and players that are +40 that got pulled down (player was rated 510, for my A+ team). I'm fairly certain that the game uses their own algorithm to rank players, which is why a 520 rated C could be unranked while a 490 C is ranked #189.

Higher rating simply means the player has a higher probability of being ranked higher within the algorithm (the 510 C I pulled down had 99 durability, which explains why he was pulled down), but it's not absolute. I bring up ranking because when I first joined D2, I was told that if you cannot pull down the #189 ranked C, then you cannot pulled down the #188 ranked. In game ranking is what determines whether a player can be pulled down, not overall rating.

11 SV is standard to have them consider you; that's been the bare minimum for me. My experience points to somewhere around 15-17 to have a player consider me.
