To be fair, he did do half of that hitting in Hilltop...

When i construct my teams I routinely have guys only used a handful of times or 1st timers.  Many, many times I've drafted players never used before that become cookies. I hate it since the most fun for me is putting together rosters only to see guys I use turn into cookies.  Lately I have been attempting to use guys with as few uses as possible. But in all honesty, facing "08 Joss 50-60x per year in OL's is really starting to get annoying

That's true, but his away #'s weren't bad, either:

.339/.360/.405/.765

Speaking of Joss, I constructed this team with the idea of beating everyone's Addies (there were 12 different ones in this league).  I drafted 8 lefty hitters with high AVG's/no power, and put them in Hilltop.  With my starters in, we went 11-6 against the Josses (with my scrubs/AAA, 2-5).  Not terrifically successful, but certainly better than I usually do against Joss.

I try to do the same thing because of all of the pitching cookies,I used a staff of 150 IP pitchers or less for 2 or 3 seasons and won 1 of my WS with that strategy. You still have to face a ton of joss's so i quit OL all together for awhile. Trueman has a great OL I recently joined ,no pre 1950 pitchers and pick your own AAA ,a ton of different pitching strategy and a lot of fun

You know, I'd be interested in joining a league made up ENTIRELY of players who have never been used in an open league.... Or even of all players over $1m who are open league virgins.

I'll bet sitestaff could give a list....

I can't run leagues like I used to... But It'd be a very interesting challenge

Jfranco ran a league that a while back and admin did help out with the players. It was a ton of fun. I don't remember who won, but I know I made the playoffs. I'd definitely be up for playing in another league like that.

Well, someone set it up and please sitemail me

Semi-related question...is there an ongoing blacklist league running these days?  If so, can someone let me know who's running it so I can join?  If there isn't one, is anyone up for it?  If there's enough interest I'll start one...

I'm sure we'd all like a league devoid of Joss, Dilone, Coleman, Castillo, Raines, Carter, etc.

My team right now has two virgins on it. I'm using '73 Gary Matthews with one game remaining in the season and he has been arguably my best player. I had him hitting cleanup for the majority of the season, stepping in a few times in the 3-hole:

.319/.364/.453 10HRs, 112RBI, 2SB, 6.28RC/27 with 673PA. Pretty good value for 4.5 mil.

The second guy is '21 Charlie Jamieson:

.281/.364/.335 0HRs, 67RBI, 0SB, 4.63RC/27 with 694PA. 4.23 mil.

Jamieson might fit into some lineups well, but I couldn't really find a great spot for him, he has great OBP but no speed to speak of, and no extra-base power. I will use Matthews again for sure though, he has 15 triples to go along with his 10HRs, and I think he would be a perfect 4 or 5 hitter for value. He outperfomed '93 Gregg Jefferies on my team for sure.

(Home Park was AT&T. Only thing about Matthews is he has 21 - plays in CF. Team has 94 wins with one game remaining, made playoffs)
