The value of different recruiting actions? Topic

I’m wondering how valuable certain recruiting actions are compared to others.  I know a campus visit is the best, but how many home visits or scouting trips does it take to get the equivalent value of 1 campus visit?

For instance, for a player 10 miles away these are the following costs:

Scouting Trip: $152

Home Visit: $302

Campus Visit: $801

Does the cost reflect the values?  So is a scouting trip 19% as valuable as a Campus Visit in terms of recruiting effort or credit (so 5.27 scouting trips = 1 CV), and is a Home Visit worth 38% as much as much as a Campus Visit (or 2.65 HV = 1 CV), etc., etc.?

I would think these can’t reflect the values exactly because for a recruit 2620 miles away it costs $700 for a scouting trip, $1427 for a HV, and $2384 for a CV which equates to a HV being worth 60% of a CV and a scouting trip being worth 29% of a CV which is different than for the closer recruit.

Hypothetically say I had $908 left in my recruiting budget and I was in a battle for a recruit I had already offered a scholarship to.  What would serve me best (using the figures for a recruit 10 miles away):

1 CV @ $801 (and maybe use the rest on phone calls/letters?)

3 HV @ $906

2 HV + 2 scouting trips @ $908

Also how much value do you think promised minutes/starts have? (Looking for something quantifiable even though I know this will probably be just opinion, like it’s worth as much as a HV or 25% of a campus visit, etc, not minimal, or a little, or a lot).

Some thoughts:

A scouting trip is probably not as good, for the dollar, as a HV or CV - at any distance.  The reason for this is that you get information from an ST that you don't get from the other two, and recruits can turn down a HV or a CV.

Personally, I think that a HV is worth a bit less than half of a CV, so I prefer HVs over CVs at any distance where they're less than half the price.  At 10 miles, I'd go for the 3 HV (or the 2 HV and 2 STs, but that's because I really, really like having the full info on recruits.)  I use more STs than most coaches, I think, but they're not good for the "hard power" of actually convincing a recruit or winning a battle.

In this case, though, I might go 2 HV + 1 ST... you never know if you're going to need to promise 30 min or a start.  If you've got $950, though, I'd probably say 3HV>2HV+2ST>CV.

The number I recall hearing sometime back is that a CV is believed to equal roughly 2.5 HV's, which is why the maxim is if you're inside the 360-mile circle, you use HV's (at that distance or closer 2.5 HV's are cheaper than 1 CV...beyond that distance the CV is cheaper than 2.5 HV's).

This is a coach_billyg question (I'm sure there are others who could answer it as well...I just wouldn't be surprised if the coach doesn't have it all broken down into some sort of Celsius-to-Farenheit conversion chart...).

The break even point is much lower than 360 miles.  If you use your calculation of 1 CV = 2.5 HV, the break even point is around 150 miles actually

You will hear longtime vets and succesful recruiters argue about the exact value. Lostmyth who was one of the most succesful coaches and according to coach_billyg the best recruiter stated he felt CVs were worth at least 2.5x a HV and could be as high as 3:1. Others disagree and think it's closer to 2:1 and at most 2.3:1. These are all great coaches that will give you different #s. It's generally accepted that a ST from a monetary standpoint isn't comparable to a HV or CV so there is no reaosn to use them in a battle unless you are trying to find out "high/high" areas.

My personal opinion is that LM is/was wrong and it's less than 2.5:1 but with the fact that nobody knows the exact value of prestige and exactly how considering credits work it's impossible to know.
