Position change Topic

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but wanted to ask.

I have a recruit who is fairly well suited for a SF position (6'4", PER 24, LP 48) who isn't terrible as a frosh, and has potential in DIII to contribute in a year or two. He is a natural PF out of highschool.

Can I change is internal position from PF to SF?  If so how?  If not, has anyone experimented with this type of scenario and have any guidence?

You can't change his listed position, but you can put him in any position you would like in your depth chart.

tbarket, a couple things:

-Height and weight are already factored into the ratings, so there's no need to consider them, they're already accounted for.
-If you're referring to Topete, he's far too slow and unathletic to play sf, I would definitely not move him there.

Just play the player where he is best suited. I played a sf at center almost exclusively all season with my Wyoming team in in Phelan d1 this season and he was named first team all American at sf.

So would you use a SG rather than someone like Topete?  I would be losing some rebounding, but definately gaining the athletic side.

I wouldn't play Topete at SF; girt is right - he's much to slow an unatheletic for SF.  I'd definitely use a SG.  If I had your squad, here's the lineup I'd use:

PG: Dutil, Jordan, McPhail
SG: Helmuth, Barnes, Wright
SF: Wright, Trinh (vs m2m)/Barnes (vs. zone)
PF: Trinh, Topete, Cochran
C: Lough, Stepanski, Cochran

i'd redshirt Belin or Cochran.  Belin if possible because you have so many guards.

as an aside, your team right now is more suited for FCP or even zone than M2M.  Your defensive ratings are not strong enough.  That being said, you should have no problem scoring points, especially from the perimeter.  best of luck to you!

What would be the negatives to redshirting Belin?  I didn't 'discuss' it with him during recruiting.  First exibition went well.  Your right topete (even at -4 on 3pt) still hauled up to many 3's and although he helped grab rebounds, was a liability in terms of defense on the perimeter.  Trying a new lineup with tomorrows exhibition with press and press/zone d's and a different line up with Wright at the SF spot.

Also noted that my starters all have A- def IQ for man to man and poor IQ's for the others.  Would it be best to stay with man? Even if the Def ratings are lower?  What could I focus on in practice that would effect def ratings?

There are no negatives to redshirting Belin unless his WE drops (or drops a lot).  If that happens, take the RS off and his WE will go back up.  What you'll gain is his IQs getting an extra year AND his ratings will come closer to maxing out or maxing out sooner.

It may be in your best interests to stay with M2M, provided you continue to recruit solid defensive players (or ones with not so great DEF but high potential).  Although your team is more suited for zone or FCP, I wouldn't switch (at least this year) because your team is good and your offense should overcome the defensive shortcomings in most instances.

Thanks.  I'll give it a try with the M2M for the year.
