odds of a player quitting after a cut? Topic

anybody know what the chances are of losing another player after you cut one? one you recruited, that is. ive basically got a sophmore who i needed just to put a mass of flesh in a backup big man position. but with what may be the best selection of bigs i've ever had, i feel i could easily replace him with someone who not only does not suck, but who i would really like to have. so if its like, 10% or less, i'll probably make the cut. but if its more, i don't know, there are too many players i like on the team to risk it. are players in the same class more likely to get ****** off?

I've cut a few players I've recruited and have never had anybody quit. I've never even seen it happen in a conference I'm in. I think the % is so low it's not even worth worrying about.

you know that by calling it out like this in public if you do cut someone it will happen right?

Ive cut alot of guys and NEVER had one quit.

I'd say it's less than 1%.

didn't even know it was possible

I've probably cut 7-10 players I recruited, and have never had another player quit as a result, though I do know it's a possibility.

I had this happen in my second season ever playing HD. Rude awakening, but hasn't happened since.

It has happened to me one time.   Not sure of how many cuts, but it was one time, when I first came to a team.

I had a guy quit once, after two seasons of not  getting enough playing time-constantly got mails form him complaining about minutes-it didn't happen until he nagged me to death, though

I know this thread is 8 months old... but thought I'd pass this along.  Last season, I signed Randall Dunn as a JUCO to be the starting SG for my D2 Wooden team at Bluefield State.  I also signed Michael Scott as his freshman backup.  I left after one season to join a more populated conference, and my replacement rescinded Scott's scholarship (for which I don't blame him; Scott wasn't a terrific signing of mine and certainly wasn't destined to be a shining star).

But Dunn responded by immediately quitting the team, too, and he is now a 724-point D2 transfer being recruited by oldresorter's D1 Cincinnati team.

So, apparently, it can happen.

I think the sympathy quit only ever happens when you a) cut two players in one offseason and b) signed both of them yourself.  I mean, I walked into Northwestern and cut three players - a third of the team - last "summer", and the other six all stuck around.

But, in the Bluefield State case, the coach who replaced me was the one who suffered from Dunn's sympathy quit, and he wasn't the one who signed either of the two players involved -- I was.  So, it appears that it can happen even if the coach who cuts the first player isn't the coache who signed either of the players involved.

That having been said, it certainly seems this doesn't happen very often; I just thought it noteworthy enough to raise it here.
