Who to draft #1 over all? UPDATED Topic

I took over a team with the #1 pick in the draft.  Seeing that I just took over I only have 14mill in Col and HS. So i am not sure how good of a look I am getting at these players.

There is not one top line SP in my system. But the team is far away from being ready. I almost think I should take the best player I can.

This is who I am looking at.

OV     R    G    AR    AC    DU    HE    SP    MU     CON     PW     L      R     EY     BR

                                       OV    DR      HEL      MU      ST      CON      L       R      SP    GB         1       2       3     4      5
SP  Russ Wright          65     27        59         91       74        68        48     63     75      75        78    70    35    33    33
         19YO COL FR    89     29        69          98      97        99        69      91     89      81        96    84    50    50    50

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks

I am thinking of going with the SP. But I don't like his low health. You could make a case for the CF but again he has low health. The sure thing would be the SS. That could play every day. But has the least amount of talent.

My ranking would be:
#1 SS - I think the Glove proj is a bit high and the arm strength proj is a bit low, so it seems likely, assuming you have a good fielding instructor, that he could actually be a legit fielding SS. Obviously the 90 Power is a fantasy, but all the other numbers look to be 70+ so he looks like a rare talent to me as a real SS who should also be a good ML hitter.
#2 SP - He's a playoff rotation starter, but not a overpowering ace. His splits probably end up mid 60/mid 80 and with 2 good pitches. With dur/stam already at 27/74, he is going to be a regular season workhorse who could end up pitching ~275+ innings per season and would definitely help a team get to the playoffs.
#3 CF - I assume he is a lefty since he is listed at CF and not 2B. His glove will probably fall short of 80, but should still be viable at CF with his great range to give him lots of + plays to go with his extra errors. He should also be a very good hitter, but his low baserunning is what keeps me from ranking him higher.

Go with the SP.  He looks like he'll end up like this guy from my league: http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2549748.  Vic Lopez is in his 20s and already has two Cy Youngs.  I would actually say the SS is the weakest of the three.  His actual fielding numbers will make him either a good 3B or a bad SS.  And he's only going to be an average ML hitter.  The CF is interesting, and even more interesting if he is right-handed (because he can play 2B).  But he's going to fall short of his projections in glove and power, which will make him a good, but not great player.  The health of the SP worries me a tad, but his upside is way greater.

the health of the CF scares me... i'd go with the SP... he'll be a bullpen saver and someone you can count on, even in the playoffs

I'd take that SP in a heartbeat... and with the durability/stamina already sufficient for the majors, you could plug him into your rotation immediately and give him the benefit of playing under the best coaches.

I would go with the SS.  But I'm lazy and a huge fan of high durability guys I can plug in and forget about.

Are you sure you have the right projections on that SS, its identical to the CF listed above, which seems improbably.

I'd take the SP 1st, evrery day, then the CF, then the SS (depending on his actual batting skills)

All 3 positions are tough to fill, so you can't really go wrong with any of them, though I tend to favor pitching.

The CF has health issues, but he'll be a gold glover, great power and great speed.  The SS looks to have questionable arm accuracy, perhaps a gold glove 3b.  If those batting projections are true I might slide him over the CF and play him at SS anyways (assuming he reaches those numbers), but I'm guessing his power doesn't get up into the 90s.

Additionally, what's the handidness of each hitter? Righty, lefty, switch?  that could influence things a bit.
What is their signability?  If they'll sign quick and for slot, vs a "might sign" I'd give an added bonus to the easy signing, leaving more money for the IFA market.
What is their patience?  A higher patience means they'll be more likely to resign w/o testing the FA market in the future.  If you plan to be around 10+ seasons, a high patience guy (say 85+) may save a significant chunck of change over what they'd get on the open market for the 2nd long term contract.

It doesn't appear that most of you are taking into account that the projections are only 14M quality. I was basing my evaluation off of the current ratings and using the projections as a indicator of possible upward mobility.

Take the starter. If he comes close to those projections you should be able to trade him for those other guys and probably get more.
