Do "Probably won't sign" players sometime sign? Topic

I have the #3 pick in the draft. And my scouting is set up 18col and 1HS.  There is two star position players in a weak draft class. If I don't get one of them. I will end up with a good gloved SS with a weak bat. There is no high end pitching at all.

I am thinking of taking the guy in my rankings at #16. He says "Probably won't sign. He's determined to finish out his college career."

And try to bump my pick to next season.  Can this work? Or is there still a good shot that the player sign's?

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks

If you search the forums you'll find the info you are seeking - not much new ground left to uncover.  You will have to offer his demands, and he will have to decline that offer, for you to get a comp pick next season.  Probably won't sign = probably won't sign for the initial demand.

As I understand it. I only have to offer his first demand?

Thanks

i've had internationals sign who 'probably wont sign'. not sure if that applies to straight up draft picks. also, the guys were not studs, but were decent.

I would put a slightly different way.  Probably won't sign = will not sign for initial demand, may sign for an increased demand, though it's unlikely.

Then you get, "May sign if the deal is right" = likely won't sign for initial demand, almost always will sign for an increased demand.

I only try to go after a "Probably won't sign" guy in 2 scenarios:  1)  If he is so insanely good that I just can't pass on the possibility he might sign, or 2)  If I want a comp pick for some reason.

I have never seen an international not sign.

If you offer him his initial demands, I'd feel pretty safe that he won't sign for the original offer and will turn you down either flat out, or for a larger offer, which will net you the comp pick next season.

Is "Undecided"  the same as "May sign if the deal is right"?

The guy I am looking at has his Mom as his agent.

little chance he'd ever sign, no matter how many attempts you try.  I'd say draft him if you want to punt to next season.

DO I have to have my settings as "very aggressive" in order to pick a player that will not sign? I have the two guys I would like listed as one and two. And then my "punt" pick list as number three.
