Free Agents drop in rating? Topic

Do free agents drop in rating after the free agent period has ended?  For Example, Lets say Joe Schmo is a class A free Agent.  If no one signs him and I wait and sign him after the rule 5 draft, will his rating go down by then?  Also, I won't have to give up a draft pick for him at that time, will I?

His ratings may drop since he is unsigned and not playing, but I'm pretty sure he will retain his Type A classification until draft prospects are presented at around game 40 or so.

After the 9th spring game, a player signed and assigned to a team will show a promotion update and likely a ratings decline.
