Which to redshirt Topic

Just wanted some general advice.  Took over a team that has been sim run for the past 20 seasons.  Had 6 open scholorships.  Recruited one player for each position plus one extra PG.  All freshman will start, except for the one I redshirt.

So the question is, assuming both PGs have potential in various areas that will have them both end up with roughly equivalent final attributes, which PG should I redshirt?  One has 54 WE and the other has 80 WE.

Should I redshirt the 80 WE with the logic that his attributes will go up faster while redshirted than the 54 WE guy would, and the 54 WE guy will benefit from the WE increases of starting as a freshman?

OR

Should I redshirt the 54 WE with the logic that he needs more time to reach his potential, while the 80 WE guy will get more freshman increases and be a lock starter over the other guy for his entire career?

Mucho gracias....

(PS:  I know there is no guarantee that either will accept the RS, but that is another topic for another thread...)

I generally RS the guy with the higher WE.

Anyone else have an opinion?  Or better yet an opinion with a little bit of explanation for your logic behind that opinion?  Thanks!!!

I agree with tianyi. There's a lot that goes into it, but I would almost always redshirt the higher WE. A lot of it depends on how many high high potentials each one has - but at DII, your player should be able to reach his caps with 4 seasons and a 50+ work ethic fairly easily. Especially with playing time to start with, which I assume you will give him. Something else to consider is what your team will look like 4 seasons from now. It will almost certainly be better than now - which player would you rather have around as a fifth year player on that team?

If you really think they end up in the same place, I would normally redshirt the 54 WE guy.  The 80 WE guy will improve enough in his first 2 years to give you 2 good years without a RS, while the 54 WE guy might need the RS plus 2 years to be ready to give you starter-quality performance.  In this case, however, I agree with the guys who say the 80 WE guy.  Since you have a 6-man class, you're going to look to go deep in the tournament the senior year for this class.  With a RS and 2 years, the 80 WE guy will have developed about as much as the 54 WE guy in 3 years, and both may be close to capping out.  That gives you the best 5-senior team possible, so given your circumstances that's probably your best option.

Look at it in terms of ratings gained in the RS year. The 54 WE guy might gain 35-40 pts in his RS year, the 80 WE guy can gain 55-70 in that year. That simply more value.
