I'm wondering how some of the other coaches on here would set up the depth chart for my Methodist team.  It's a little bit tricky this year with a lack of experienced depth at the guard positions and my ostensible starting SF having the best overall PG skills (BH/Pass) but not the kind of speed I would want at PG, particularly given the fact that we run a press (and a triangle, in case it impacts anyone's thoughts).  I would prefer if coaches wanting to respond would look at the team and post recommendations without looking at what I have set; however, I'm going to go ahead and post it below since someone is bound to ask and I figure having recruited the team I ought to offer up some kind of starting point.  As of right now, I have it set up like this:

PG: Flagg, Evans, Watson
SG: Adams, Babb, Watson
SF: Evans, Myles, Mortensen
PF: Mortensen, McCadams, Hohman
C: McCadams, Barrett, Johnson

I'm hoping to redshirt Corle and develop him; he should be a stud in a few seasons and I want to give him as much growth opportunity as possible.  However, if people think I really need his defense this year I could try to redshirt Babb or one of the post guys instead.

Just my 2 cents: I came up with the same starting lineup you did, but I wouldn't personally have guys like Watson and Babb on my roster. With their athleticism and defense, it really gives teams a big hole to attack. Like I said, just my opinion.

Both of them were late, cheap acquisitions and Babb has high potential in both Ath and Def.  I dunno what Watson has anymore.

switch your C and PF, i say. per is noticeably more useless at C. and, LP is better at C. on the other hand, reb is slightly better at C, and so is better defense. all in all, id put mort at c.

you have your starting C and 2nd pf. whats your rationale there? and your starting SF at 2nd PG. i am curious - i am not sure exactly what you are thinking, maybe its different in both, and i want to make sure i hit on all the conceptual gaps, if there are indeed multiple.

also, what makes you put babb over watson?

finally, you *really* need to fill out your depth chart. in man or zone, i would say, you need to fill out your depth chart. but because of press, you REALLY need to fill it out. you are giving up probably at least 2, up to 5 games this season by having such a shallow depth chart (without looking at your schedule).

why dont you make some adjustments and post again? ill try to remember to come back and take a look, and give you a 2nd round of feedback. assuming you answered the questions i need to know to give you a 2nd round of feedback!

Evans is my #2 PG because he's got the best combination of BH and Pass on the team.  Flagg is the only guy who has the combination of PG skills and IQ to want getting significant minutes at PG.  I gave serious consideration to starting Evans at PG.  I'm more comfortable with Myles playing big minutes at SF than I am with Watson playing big minutes at PG.

McCadams is set as the #2 PF because of his speed.  I prefer to have more speed at PF, particularly in the press.  If and when McCadams and Barrett are in the game at the same time, I want McCadams at PF and Barrett at C.  I want to get as many minutes for my top 3 bigs as possible.  With the way I have it set up it should always preferentially use those 3 guys without ever using Barrett at PF.  I'm looking at it as if Barrett is the first backup for each of my bigs but always plays C.  I've done this before and it has worked reasonably as I would expect, surprisingly enough.  Incidentally, the speed consideration is also the reason I have McCadams at C and Mortensen at PF.  However, I've been wondering why Mortensen hasn't scored very efficiently.  Maybe he'd be better at C?  Incidentally, Seble did say not so long ago that rebounding is now of equal value at PF and C.  Or at least, that each post position has an equal share in the team rebounding equation.

Babb is set as my #2 SG because my second-team is going to struggle for scoring.  Babb will be able to provide some offense with his PER - not a lot, maybe, but more than Watson.

Finally, I actually do have my depth chart set 4-deep at each position, just didn't feel it was necessary to post the 4th guys since very few people on here are interested in looking that far anyway.  Case in point, billscnb looked at the starting lineup.  Anyway, my 4th PG is Babb, SG is Evans, SF is Watson, PF is Johnson, and C is Hohman.
