Tonight's Tigers-Rockies game started me thinking about C who moved to another position in real life.  Alex Avila is getting his first ML start at 3B to get both him and Victor Martinez in the lineup.

What about Craig Biggio, BJ Surhoff and Dale Murphy?  All 3 started their ML careers as C, but moved to another position.

Biggio moved to 2B, where he won 3 Gold Gloves.  He then moved to CF, before moving back to 2B to end his career.
Surhoff moved to OF, 1B and 3B.  His only All Star appearance came as an outfielder.
Murphy moved to CF and won 5 Gold Gloves there.

With the way HBD is set up, we can never see something like that.

I'm don't know if there is a way to make this happen every now and then, or if it is outside the realm of possibility for HBD.  Anyone out there with ideas or opinions?  I know there will be opinions, let's look for ideas.

WIS would need to completely redesign the way the engine handles defensive ratings for catchers.  Can't see it ever happening.

I don't either.  But just thought I'd throw it out there.

Just throwing this argument out there.....

The 80ish glove, 80ish range, 80 something arm and 30something pitch calling that we see in every league. That, in my opinion, is Biggio, Murphy, et al.

In HBD, they just didn't start out as catchers unless you switched them there.

I thought of that too diah.  I know those types are out there.  The guys who are forced to catch to overcome some other weakness that would keep them from the bigs.  Brandon Inge was a college shortstop and RP, but his hitting sucked (still does) so bad, that they made him a catcher.  He still has the best range at 3B of anyone I've seen - although the glove is kind of average.

Biggio does fit that mold pretty well when you look at his CS stats from his Catching days.  32 passed balls in 3.5 seasons isn't very good either.  But pitch calling doesn't cover that, range and glove should.

I guess that your suggestion was one that I didn't think of.  Looking at my 2 franchises, I actually have 2 or 3 guys like that.

Buster Davis is about the best example I've seen. 44 PC

I had this guy;   Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Ronn Jennings

Even with low splits, he hung tough in the bigs for a while.
