Trade Veto Philosophies Topic

A trade between two veteran owners was vetoed by 11 owners in Feller, which touched off a debate. Essentially, the debate is over whether vetos should only be used to prevent collusion and to save new owners from making stupid trades, or if vetos should also be used to prevent unfair trades between veteran owners.

I'm not trying to start a debate here about when we should veto. I'm just wondering if there's any documentation from WIS that lays out when vetoes should be used.

No guidelines from WifS beyond their fair play guidelines.   Each owner makes his own call if their are no world rules regarding trades.

Now, if you want a debate, it's my opinion that any deal that adversely affects the current and/or future competitive balance of a world is subject to veto.  This game does not require an owner to play beyond this very second.   You can make a bad deal and disappear the moment you hit accept(had it happen in Hamilton at the start of last season.  It was vetoed but the owner getting fleeced never checked in to find out).   So should 30 owners stand around with their thumbs up their collective *** and wait to see if the owner getting screwed will stick around to feel the effects of his decision?  I don't think so.

I agree with you guys. Many of our owners keep saying vetoes are only for collusion. I definitely appreciate that perspective, but if there aren't set guidelines, it's up to individuals. I'm not going to go around vetoing slightly off-balance trades, I'm more careful on vetoing trades where money, age, or free agency factor in an the waters get muddy, but I don't care if an owner has been around 90 seasons...if he's making a stupid trade and screwing up a franchise, I'll point it out.

You'll find that good, competitive worlds aren't going to tolerate nonsensical trades regardless of owners, experience or team-building philosophies.

Rare is the trade that is bad for both sides. Almost every trade benefits someone and occasionally smart owners put together deals put together trades that really benefit both sides. Unless I am involved in the trade the person benefiting is someone other than me. Therefore I believe the best policy is to veto EVERY trade.

Cash. Cash in a trade = insta veto. I don't approve extra cap space for anyone.

The veto is a part of the game and it is up to the individual owner as to how they utilize it.  Private world have the right to impose further guidelines.

I only veto trades when a player with facial hair is being traded for a player without.  I am a firm believer that the amount of facial hair per teams needs to be equally balanced.
