Do I Lose These Guys? Topic

So I had a pot of money left in prospect at the end of the season.  I offered my 3rd and 5th round picks their excessive demands - money would be gone anyway right?

They sign at 11pm 7/6.  At 3am on 7/7 (today), the WS ends.  I'm up at 4 am with "2 Players Needing Assignment".  With the WS over, the GM page is unavailable.  What happens to the players?

Released as they were unassigned when the season ended.

No big deal.  They didn't have a future anyway....

And fwiw, you moved them into the FA pool, where they would not have otherwise gone unless they were college seniors.

If they had anything but slot money demands, they would not have been FA's even if they were college seniors... I'm sure you already knew that; just pointing it out for others who may not.

Actually, I never thought about that, but it has to be correct-- if the dude says he's going to play basketball (even if he's 5'10" and has 22 speed) if you don't meet his demands, then he must go off and play basketball when you don't sign him.  Very small issue since very few college seniors have over slot demands (6 of 112 in my recent draft, compared to 39/134 21 year olds) but still worth mentioning.

Learn something new in this game all the time.  So even though these guys signed and took the money, they still went off and did whatever it is they were going to do.  Hmm.  Seems to me that they'd be under some kind of obligation for taking that money - not that I could do anything with it if they breached their contracts - I lose the money anyway.

BTW, I didn't remember correctly.  It was my 7th and 9th round picks and their demands totalled about $4M.  I had nothing else to do with the money, so I thought I'd save next year's bonus money on those two scrubs.  Definitely no big loss.

Dedelman is correct that they should be in next years FA pool...  Are they not?  They were under the obligation until you released them, which you effectively did by never assigning them.

I think you might have grounds for a lawsuit on your hands on this one.  They can't just take the money and not play.  We all know that.

I did this with some internationals a few years back, and they retired.

It depends on what "top flight" and "end of the season" means - From the last update: "Top flight draft picks and International free agents will now be assigned and inactivated automatically at the end of the season if a user leaves them pending assignment. The players are assigned to the lowest level possible, salary permitting."
