I'm entering Season 12 (just in the FA period), and I a stud SP and a cornerstone bat signed through Season 12. I looked to sign them to an extension, but both give me the classic message:

"With free-agency looming, I'm going to at least see what the market offers. Let's talk again in the offseason."

Are they gone no matter what, or am I trying to sign them too early and should just wait during the season?

Otherwise, I may have to trade both of them, or be content with the Type A compensation, though that's usually fool's gold...

They might re-sign after rollover.   It's not happening in-season.

I have not seen a guy that was a type A after rollover re-sign in this situation.  I have seen at least 4 eventual type Bs who sent this message sign after roll-over, either for list price or after the "unless you blow me away with an offer" message, not all of whom had their ratings drop in the offseason.
