Acquiring player on the 40 man roster, no options Topic

If I acquire such a player who's currently in AAA through a trade and I want him in AAA, I cannot just assign him, correct?

I believe that I would have to assign him to ML, designate, and if he passes through then assign him to AAA.

Oh, the good people of the HBD community, what is the answer?

I think as long as he's not on the 40-man roster and still has options left, you can assign him anywhere

At the beginning of this season, I acquired this player from another owner:

As you can tell, he had zero options and was on the other owner's AAA roster.  He was also on the other guy's 40-man, and I assumed I could assign him to AAA as long as I kept him on the 40-man.  I was wrong.  The two choices I had were ML or waiver wire.
