I'm assuming that he'll get a couple of points bump if I move him up, which will make him about 82-71 ((range/glove).  Can a guy with 81 or 82 range and 70 or 71 glove play 2b fulltime?  Mostly, is 70 too low of a glove rating to play effectively?

I'd be more worried about his 26 contact.  His Glove will be fine

Yep, lousy contact.  But I'm trying to put together a winning lineup right now.  He may be my best 2B guy.  He will pop some vR homers, at least.

fencer is right. My guess is he'll be around .725 for career OPS, pretty good with above average defense, but not so great when you toss in more than a few errors.

I can't see the FA's avail in your world, but odds are you can either get the same bat with better defense, or same defense with a better bat.

If you want a winning lineup I would try to find a better alternative than Mercedes.

+1, to dwoolery, emphatically.

Positives-- a few more + plays than -, and enough homers to slug in the low 400s.
Negatives-- a ton of errors, an OBP under or at best right at .300, and just for grins a pile of caught stealing.

I'd look at this as a weakness.  At the major league minimum it's not the end of the world if you play him, but I'd be actively trying to upgrade.
