I have 1st pick.. This is a no trade world and I'm pretty much set at SP..   (Looks to be a below average draft as far as #1 pick talent..
My scouting is 10 college / 18 HS

I'm leaning toward the 18yr old SS.. My higher scouting gives me a better idea of what his true talent could be. He also has a higher make up.  He'll end up being a 3B on my team.  Health is a concern..

I like the 22yr old's speed but not sure how accurate his PROJ's are.

Yeah, that 18 yr old SS will put up Wade Boggs type numbers...can't go wrong with that...unless he gets injured while he's developing.  43 health is not particularly attractive.  Looks like a pretty solid SP, though I'd worry about his pitches developing.  The older SS is attractive, because he'll probably hit 20 HRS and steal 40 bases every season.  I'd go with the young SS, but I would doubt myself because of that low health rating.  It's a really close call.

I would not even consider the young SS due to the poor health.  The older SS looks like a good solid player, but ultimately I would draft the starting pitcher.  Not only is he going to be very good, and you never have enough pitching, but you will be able to TRADE this pitcher for a SS the equal or better than both of the SS's you are thinking about.

Ooops nevermind, just saw the no trade world you are in.....I would take the older SS in this case.  My bad.

Since there are no trades I dont have to place any $$$ in ADV scouting which enables me to easily max out my training and medical.  That should help stabilize the lower HLTH rating.. Overall this draft blows..

I wouldn't touch the youg SS.  He has great numbers....but he will get hurt and it will slow his development.  Avoid him like the plague.

The pitcher is great....except for his stamina.  You'll get about 185 innings out of him each year, 33 starts, about not quite a 6 inning average.  But he'll be an ace when he throws

I have a guy just like him.  Wish he threw more innings.

I always draft pitchers, but i think I would take the college SS.  Hell be a very nice 3B or RF in two years (start him at AA this year).  The only down side to hiim is his  Durability.  You'll get about 140 starts out of him at 100%.  But he'll hit .315 and have a .390 OPB.  He'll bonk a ton of doubles, too.....look at his speed.

1) The college SS, and I don't think it's all that close, really.
2) If these are the best 3 guys your scouts could see in the whole draft, then it's either a terrible draft, or you need to get your scouts to stop trying to pick up cheerleaders in bars and go actually watch some baseball..

dedel - just curious - are you're factoring in the diff in his scouting budgets when you say player 1?

Sort of.  What's really happening is that I hardly look at scouting at all any more, of any sort. I'm making guesstimates based on age and current ratings.

This class is poor..

Am I seeing something wrong? My dick got hard thinking about drafting a SP with 88 OCN and 100/96 splits. With 18 HS scouting you can assume they are pretty accurate.

I don't see either of the SSs actually reaching their projections: the 22 year old because they are unreliable and the 18 year old because of his health. The SP projects as a HOFer. What's the question here?

Regarding the fact that you're "pretty much set at SP": Are that you really that deep that you wouldn't benefit from this guy joining your rotation in 3-4 seasons? Surely you don't have an entire rotation locked up with 5 year contracts - Let somebody else walk to make room for him and cash in the comp picks.

There's no trades or free agency.. Basically all of my free agents get signed for cheap or at least the ones that are worth keeping. I have 7 SP that are well above average at the AAA/ML level.  I dont have a good 3B/SS in my system and I'm short on offense.

If this was a normal world the SP would be close to a no brainer..

I still think the SP is a no brainer.  There's no such thing as too much pitching.  Grab a good defensive SS in the ealry to middle rds.  Move your current best SS option to 3B.  If you're stuck with someone for a career, you can't gamble the #1 pick on the health risk.

Your other option is drafting someone that won't sign, make the offer and take the pick next season hoping for a better draft.  Use the money to sign an IFA to fill one of your holes.

I don't care how many pitchers you have.  No way I'm passing on that guy.  I'm with carnivore, let one of your other marginal guys walk and use that money for free agents.  But you can't pass up on this pitcher.
