...the 20th most expensive player in the league per plate appearance?

For that matter, why are so many part-time catchers so overpriced?

2004 Pat Borders 55PA 1HR .189AVG 1.37RC27 20,628$/PA

It is due to his A+ arm. The way catchers arms are priced could use some fixing.  Arms seem to be charged at a flat rate instead of pro-rated based on how many games a catcher could actually play.

This has been brought up to admin many times, and is one of the things I most hope will be fixed in the next update (assuming there ever is another update).

ya they introduced the new pricing last update with big goofy smiles on their faces. They were pretty proud that light hitting 50pa catchers cost 3mil. I don't think any of us have caught on to their higher thinking yet.

it is true that all of the grossly overpriced, light-hitting catchers have A+ arms. Definately seems to be a correlation.

Yes.  They specifically increased the price of all A+ armed catchers across the board.  Their resoning was they were pricing them by their defensive value.

Admin stated that their reasoning was you can have a low PA A+ arm catcher come in as a defensive replacement in the 8th or 9th inning and so long as he doesn't get an AB each game, he can play all 162 games for you.  This provides you with a stellar defender who will shut down running teams late in the game when it matters most. So, they made the arm of catchers a flat constant price based on the rating because it was a stat that they deemed very important for the players usefulness.

Defense from a catcher is so easy to play match-ups with. If you have a backup SS with a great glove, I suppose you can play him when you have a pitcher on the mound who gets a lot of balls in play, but even then the difference isn't huge. With a catcher though, if there's only 5-6 teams in the league that run a lot, you can just save the A+ arm for these games and be pretty safe against the run for the season. I think the price is a little out of whack, but admin is correct is putting a higher premium on catcher defense compared to other positions when looking at low PA guys.

I don't disagree, but to be priced higher than the very best seasons of hall of famers is whack!

If that is the case accross the board then why is 2001 Shawn Wooten, with the same A+ arm, is a reasonable 1.49M?

hehe I've been using him for 3 years, and it takes a forum post to make him a cookie?  I got 20 guys like that, maybe I should be quiet :)
