Maket based pricing??? Topic

Seamar116 introduced what I think is a great idea for admin to consider: market based pricing. In other words, the more a player gets selected by us, the higher his price goes, I think that is a terrific idea.

I'd love to see a very specific proposal for how it would work.  In my opinion it sounds good in theory, but there would be a LOT of problems with implementing it.

First off the idea isn't new.  Lots of people have suggested it in the past.  There are two major problems that I see with this.
1) How often would prices be adjusted.  What would happen to teams that have entered a league that exceed the cap after price adjustments?
2) What would happen to the thousands of player-season that go essentially unused?  Would you continue to adjust these salaries down indefinately?

I agree with Boog that fixed pricing is better.  I do, however, think its time for admin to re-adjust salaries across the board and/or fix some problems in the algorithm.

One of the most common complaints we see in the forums and on league message boards is the frequency with which we see the same players used. Strat O Matic has a system where we draft teams for every league, so that there is no repitition of players within the league. It isn't perfect, and I like WIS and the SIM much better than SOM, but with all the players we have available, many solutiions are possible.

And put a price tag on all ballparks.

I proposed this in earlier thread; I would like to see a system whereby WIS Park (completely neutral) is free, but you pay a gradually increasing premium as you opt for more extreme parks.  I believe that this, more than anything else, would lessen the use of cookies and create more roster diversity.

What Bill James Classic Baseball used to do....back before things were online and you got your results by mail, was that you submitted your desired roster. There were no duplicate players allowed in the league. Once a league filled the owners were randomly slotted. The first owner got his complete roster. All subsequent owners followed suit. If you lost a player because he was already drafted you received a salary bump and you were allowed to select another player, and so on until your roster was filled. Doing it online now would be a snap. Once a year a player catalog came out with player prices based on usage. There was a minimum price a player could be, just like WIS.

Either way...one instance of a player per league, or dynamic pricing would go a long ways towards eliminating the proliferation of cookies.
