At that level do you have a chance to battle a big 6 school for a 4 or 5 star recruit?  Let's assume it's not a superconference team with unlimited cash that you would be battling.

And I'm aware of the obvious implications of a battle, I just don't know if those kinds of players will really pay much mind to a school with B prestige.

I'd battle the right team for a  4 star at a B.

For sure possible.  Got to find a big 6 team with lower prestige than you or battles elsewhere so they have less cash than you, or if you have a distance advantage, go for it.  I beat several big name schools in battles at Wichita State, the ones I remember are Arkansas and Florida State.

I lost a bunch too, so don't underestimate their resources.  I would avoid battling A and A+ teams unless you are within 200 miles and they are over 360.

It's all about the situation. Some are unwinnable, some are very winnable. When I was at Montana, I battled various Pacific NW schools from the Pac-10 every season and always won (including beating Washington for the #1 center one season), but that was all about picking the right battles.

I would avoid battling A/A+ teams.  You will likely waste lots of money and lose almost every time unless the player is someone they are not really interested in.  Even A- is iffy, but within 200 miles or so you can definitely win.  You must have a distance advantage and read the tea leaves correctly.  Also be prepared to cut bait and move on quickly if there is any doubt.

sounds good guys appreciate the input.  this will be my first season with a B prestige at D1 and wasn't sure how far I could push things.  Just lost a juco guy to transfer even though i made him no promises so i'm gonna have the full allotment of cash to work with but not the bonus cash of some of the big 6 schools.  hoping i can get a couple of good players cheap and make a big push for one or two bigger fish.
